New third kit

As we recently advanced the 3rd kit designed by Umbro for Athletic Club has already been exposed.

The Jersey is constructed predominantly in Black to give an uncluttered aesthetic, again to add greater contrast between the Home and Away, and adds interest to the Jersey by the means of a shadow stripe pinstripe emboss running down the front chest of the garment. With both the crest and Umbro diamond being housed in an upper chest shaped yoke area. The Jersey is then trimmed with Vermillion in key visual areas at the Collar, Cuff and Hem. Plus the breathable lumbar region.

The 3rd jersey will be on sale on September 25th and it will cost 66 Euros. It will be available at the Official Stores and other usual outlets as well as on the Club’s website.

To adapt to UEFA regulations, the Athletic Club’ kit is subject to some modifications for official competitions as follows:

- The strips at the back are replaced with red colour.
- The “Bizkaia” logo is removed from the left-hand sleeve.
- The Professional Football League logo is replaced with the UEFA logo.
- The Sponsor is kept on the breast (the regulations establish that only one can be displayed).

…why did Athletic Club wear its second-choice kit in the first leg against Young Boys?

The answer is to be found in the UEFA regulations; NONE of the elements that make up the kit of the two teams (shirt, shorts and socks) must clash. In turn, in the spirit of Fair Play, the visitor CHOOSES its kit.

The first-choice kit of Young Boys is a shirt with black and yellow stripes, black shorts and black and yellow striped socks. In the first leg, Young Boys chose its first kit, and as the shorts clash with those of Athletic Club, the latter had to play with its second-choice blue and white shorts. But in the second leg and due to Fair Play, Athletic chose its first kit, which is why Young Boys swapped its shorts, from the usual black to white.

As for the next match, there are various clashing elements in the kits of both sides, meaning there are a number of possibilities; the first shirt of the Tromso IL kit is red and white with white shorts and its second choice is a completely blue kit. Both elements coincide with the first and second choice of Athletic Club, so we’ll have to go for another combination… it’s a good chance to show off the third kit…

… a third kit which we will show you here exclusively.

First official match win with the new red-and-white Umbro shirt. The shirt had a new feature – the back was in one single colour, all red with no stripes, to comply with UEFA regulations.

First official competition goal scored by Llorente with the new Umbro kit.

And as the finishing touch, Muniain broke the record for the youngest-ever player to score a goal for the Athletic Club in an official competition.
